Weve put together some FAQs and answers regarding your trip to
Victoria on beautiful Vancouver Island.
Why should I go to a B&B?
We find ourselves hosts to many people who have never tried a Bed &
Breakfast before. Our beds are soooo comfy we are often asked what type of mattress
we have. The breakfasts delight one and all, both for the presentations and
for the casual conversations our guests strike up. The art of enjoying a meal
to start the day is revived each morning while travellers regale one another
with their adventures. Suggestions on where to dine
and what to attractions to see are so handy,
whether from other guests or their hosts. The clink of fine Old Country Roses
china, and ripples of laughter can be heard each morning. As our guests finally
tear themselves away from the dining experience, they solicit advice from Rick
on best ways to get around, or ask Michaela to reserve dining and whale watching.
Try the Bed and Breakfast experience for
yourselves. You'll like it!
How much time do I need to see the important
sites in Victoria?
We suggest at least two nights just to get a taste of what Victoria, BC has
to offer. The important things to cover are Butchart
Gardens and the Empress Hotel. Butchart
Gardens will take you at least two hours if youre not a gardener or upwards
of five hours if youre an avid one! Then there are the three restaurants
and the seasonal entertainment there

If you also want to experience the wonderful boutiques and English flavoured
shops, like Rogers Chocolates, the Hat Shoppe and Murchies Tea shop,
youll need a day to explore Government Street. We also have one of the
oldest Chinatowns in North America, Downtown Inner Harbour, Parliament Buildings,
Craigdarroch Castle, The Royal BC Museum, IMAX Theatre and lots more. Anne Hathaway's
Thatched Cottage Victoria is located directly behind The Lord Nelson Bed &
Breakfast. Step back in time and see the full-sized replica of William Shakespeares
Wifes birthplace and home.
| | | | We havent even
covered the sites on the outskirts of town like Fisgard Lighthouse and Hatley
Castle! | | | | Do I need
a reservation on the ferries? We suggest in the summer months and
on weekends that you reserve if possible. Up to 70% of fares on BC Ferries are
now held for reservations. The BC Ferries
route has hourly sailings in summer, and sails every two hours in winter between
Tsawwassen (just outside Vancouver) and Swartz Bay (30 minutes from Victoria).
The sailings are about every two hours from Horseshoe Bay (North Vancouver) to
Nanaimo (two hours north of Victoria). Both these ferries take reservations and
accommodate vehicles. The Washington ferry
from Anacortes (just off the I-5) to Sidney (also 30 minutes from Victoria) only
sails twice a day in summer, and once a day in winter. They do take reservations
and vehicles. The Port Angeles Blackball
ferry does not take reservations, but does take vehicles. It sails four times
a day in summer, and twice a day in winter. The Victoria
Express is a foot passenger ferry from Port Angeles, and can be reserved.
From Seattle, the Victoria Clipper
is a foot passenger ferry and can be reserved. The Port Angeles
and Seattle ferries dock right in Victoria Harbour, downtown. |
| Do I need a car? Victoria
City centre is 30 minutes drive from the Swartz Bay ferry, the airport and the
Sidney ferry terminal (Anacortes route).
If you arrive this route
on foot, you will need to take a city
bus to Victoria ($2 CAD each one way), which takes about 1¼ hours.
Then you will need a taxi for your luggage to get to any B&B, including ours.
We are very close to downtown; three miles (5 minutes by car). If
you choose to take the coach on the BC ferry, it will be about $21 CAD from the
ferry to Victoria and again you will need a cab to your B&B. PCL 1-800-661-1725.
There are shuttles from Vancouver airport to the
Tsawwassen ferry terminal also. From the Victoria
airport, you can arrange a shuttle bus for about $15 CAD one way and they
will drop you off at our B&B, but this needs to be pre-booked. A cab is about
$40 CAD from the airport. AKAL shuttle 1-877-386-2525. OUR
ADVICE
We suggest renting a car if you don't bring one over, even
for one day - to get out to Butchart Gardens and several attractions and sites
just outside of town. Most companies will pick you up at the ferry during business
hours (Tsawwassen, Sidney, or downtown Victoria ferries). This needs to be pre-arranged.
They will also drop you back at your chosen ferry when you leave, or at the B&B
when you finish your rental. | |
